When we first visited Falling Waters, the grass was about ankle high and every building was FILLED with trash and treasures. When we purchased the property and came the first time to begin the clean-up, the grass was waist-high (at least for a short person like myself) and we began the process of clearing the buildings. As we stomped the grass down so we could avoid snakes and ticks, there seemed to be no end to the piles of trash we discovered here and there. We have picked up glass bottles, aluminum cans and all kinds of metal discarded without thought or care.
This is what it looks like to redeem the land. Someone else didn’t value what God created and we are taking it back. It is hard work but someone reminded me recently that God really likes hard work. Our goal for this life isn’t to work as little as possible but to work as unto the Lord in everything we do.
As we were in the thick of cleaning things up, Jesus gave me a vision of walking into one of the messy buildings with Him. He was ahead of me and began picking up trash and placing it into a bag. He looked back at me with a beautiful smile which was an invitation to join Him in the clean-up. How do you have joy while picking up other people’s trash? You do it for Jesus.
Here are some before and after pics of where we started and where we were just under six months later.
